Wyldefyre is a talented musical duo who perform, in period costume, at renaissance, medieval, Celtic and pagan festivals. Their extensive repertoire includes songs culled from the rich musical heritage of Ireland and the British Isles, original compositions and their trademark songs revolving around Celtic myth and legend and pagan spirituality.
The Performers:
Martyn Wylde
vocals, guitar, bass, mandolin, bouzouki
Martyn’s smooth tenor and astonishing 3 1/2 octave vocal range had him headed for a career in music from an early age. Rock music, particularly the “British Invasion” of the mid-1960s radically changed the direction that career was to take.
His driving, yet melodic basslines and upper register vocal harmonies kept him in demand as a studio and touring musician for over three decades. In 2000 he ended a nearly ten year long stint with southern rockers Bandit, after recording three CDs and touring extensively with the group, to try his hand at yet another musical genre; the folk music of the British Isles.
A devotee of all things Celtic, and a druid of the Bardic grade, Martyn’s fingerstyle guitar, octave mandolin and distinctive voice are hallmarks of Wyldefyre’s unique musical style. He also plays bass with Celtic Mayhem.
Tree McInnis (Su Lapadura)
vocals, flute, bodhran, bones
Tree has been both a street performer and scripted cast member at renaissance and medieval faires since 1999, and brings humor and authentic period characterization to her role as “Mistress of Ceremonies” of Wyldefyre’s musical stage show.
In 2003 she helped found the Privy-Tiers, an all female musical pirate quartet, specializing in sea shantys performed a capella with four part harmony. Su joined Wyldefyre in March 2006. A talented multi-instrumentalist, she also plays oboe, bassoon and a wide variety of traditional percussion instruments.
